Founder of The Gentlemans Retreat, James Herrington also known as Jimmy Cutthroat, realised at the age of 24 years old that most traditional values and services expected by discerning customers had largely disappeared from the high street. His vision has created the look and feel of days gone by, where a gentleman could relax and enjoy a little ‘me’ time in a quirky and fascinating atmosphere.

THE OFFICER'S MESS

The Gentlemans Retreat has evolved to become the place in the region where a gentleman is able to call it their own, feel special, get that extra sharp look and be pampered. Jimmy's unique outlook on life is fresh and old fashioned at the same time.

The Gentlemans Retreat has become a vital and unique combination of a one stop male grooming salon, a leading tattoo studio and a 1920’s ‘speak easy’ offering fine drinks such as high end and rare whiskeys and Brandy. Poker nights are a regular and very popular attraction.

The Gentlemans’ Retreat offers complementary Wi-Fi for all guests to use as  work space.

It's my first choice for a hair cut . Really surprised by negative comments. An amazing space and unique harbours. I took my son for a wet shave before he joined the army. Amazing experience (although I now have a beard) highly recommend.

Fantastic experience, not cheap but its taken me nearly 60 years to have a cut throat shave definiltey will be returning face fealt clean and cool afterwards, head massge was very relaxing.
